I’ve been avoiding the heaviest dubstep producers in terms of bass-use this far, and today provides some more ambient dubstep for you. Boxcutter, also known as Barry Lynn, hails from Northern Ireland and is pretty much the only major dubstep producer coming from there, but that may be just what gives him a little more flavour. Similar to Shackleton, his music focuses more on ambience than just bass, and his productions draw inspiration from a mixture of jazz, lounge and reggae music to create a unique combination of drums, bass and samples. In fact, the samples may be the most interesting part of Boxcutter’s music, as they’re the main element of the very ambient productions.
