Justus Köhncke reworks Friendly Fires

Prepare to enter a hurricane of sounds when you listen to this track. Justus Köhncke‘s remix of Friendly Fires‘s Paris (remember the Aeroplane remix?) is easily recognizable yet remarkably different from the original. The first three minutes are actually quite a pleasant listen, with the percussion is flying on top of the “fade-out” synths (that sound an awful lot like The Field‘s Sun & Ice by the way). At the three minute mark we’re reminded that it really is Paris we’re listening to, when “and every night…” finally makes its way out of the heavy percussion.

After that the tracks takes a full 180 degree spin and approches something close to discohouse with a terribly funky keyboard while the percussion is still banging away. What I really dig about this track is the way that the vocals are chopped up and actually sounds like a manipulated synth. I’ve always been a fan of chopped up vocals, and this track is no exception!
