Disco and dubstep is what it’s all about

Ytre Rymden

If I could choose only two genres to cover here at Going Other Places, dubstep and disco would be the top priorities. The future will no doubt be divided between the two, I’m pretty sure about that. To give you a fresh look at what’s happening with the d&d (possibly the worst abbreviation ever?), here are fresh new tracks from Jakes & Joker, a new Pink Stallone remix and some space disco from Norway’s Ytre Rymden Dansskola.

- Ytre Rymden Dansskola – Kahluha Madness (Remix)

Posting this track is my feeble attempt to pay tribute to the lovely Feel My Bicep blog. A lot of great disco tunes to grab, be sure to check them out.

  • 0:36 – Does Norwegian electro equal space disco? I’m just curious
  • 2:26 - This is just solid. Not spectacular, not mind blowing, just a really solid slice of space disco
  • 3:39 – Incredible how this can sound like mountain tops and late night beach parties at the same time

- Marina and the Diamonds – Obsessions (Pink Stallone Crush)

I can’t help it. I fell in love with Pink Stallone a long time ago. Their slow burning disco may not be the most prominent in the field, but I have a very soft spot for their grooves. This is their remix of Marina and the Diamonds’ Obsessions

  • 0:07 - Can’t help thinking My Girls, although I think this will go down a slightly different path
  • 1:52 - Stereo is a must
  • 2:17 – These vocal samples work surprisingly well. On top of the arpeggiated bass this just feels right
  • 4:08 – That siren-synth is a bit painful. The other one is lovely though

- Jakes & Joker – 3k Lane

Heavy stuff. Joker makes some crazy dubstep, and when he joins forces with Jakes this thing just becomes magic. If the first track was an homage to Feel My Bicep, this one goes out to the always eclectic Pelski.

  • 0:29 – Sick! Massive bass and gritty synths
  • 1:12 – Aaand there’s wobble for everyone. Beautiful
  • 2:06 – All the elements blend together so well. Love the call and response’ish thing
  • 2:53 – Feels a bit schizophrenic all in all, but who cares when all the bits are extraordinary?

Similar ramblings:

  1. Pink Stallone breathe new life into disco
  2. Streetlife DJ’s love the disco sound
  3. The six

Jakes and Joker played this Saturday at Stengade 30. Did you see ‘em, Rasmus? I missed it.

would have loved to be there, but Stengade isn’t exactly a safe hangout at the moment.. Have to see them next time, want to join me? ;)
