Jokers of the Scene

I’m continuing the streak of Twitter’ish posts with the latest slice of great music. First up is the latest track from Jensen Sportag. The band impressed me when they shared Sergio with the blogosphere, and now they’re back with Jackie. Judging from the email they sent me, this one is just as crazy as Sergio.

- Jensen Sportag – Jackie

  • 0:00 - I’ll have to start with a quote from the press release: “The title track is celebratory with a central theme of desire and shifts musically between 3 compositional quotations from pop rock.” Cool, right?
  • 0:40 – All the funk from Sergio remains. Sounds a bit like an upbeat version of of Montreal
  • 2:20 - Dig the “Come on Jackie” lyrics! Simplicity is key
  • 3:35 – Surprised how well they pull off those guitar figures and drum fills. Would be way to cheesy in every other context, but somehow this just works.
  • 5:03 – The sound on the final chorus is really neat. My love for sampled vocals grows and grows

- Congorock – Runark (Jokers of the Scene Remix)

Congorock has just dropped Runark, and this remix is from fellow Fool’s Gold troublemakers Jokers of the Scene. Grab the full release on Turntable Lab and enjoy the other remixes.

  • 0:16 – Now that’s a kick drum!
  • 1:45 - Building, building, building
  • 2:01 – and we’re off! Think I’ll have to compliment the sound on this track once again
  • 3:39 – I love the way this one seems really hardcore just after the drop, but then the soft synths take over and we’re all safe again
  • 5:43 – This is easily my favorite JOTS remix so far! Feels extremely well made throughout

- La Roux – In For The Kill (Hostage Remix)

The last track for today is Hostage‘s remix of La Roux‘s excellent In For The Kill. I’ve already been raving about the remixes from Skream & The Twelves, and it’s safe to say that the Skream remix blew me away. A Hostage remix seems like a good idea.

  • 0:33 - The rhythm seems kinda awkward.. A lot different from before mentioned remixes though.
  • 1:31 - Nice idea with the piano, suits the vocals really well.
  • 2:00 - That’s a twist worth blogging about! You’ll have to hear it to believe it
  • 3:42 - Note to self: wonk + piano = gold
