The lovely but somewhat unlikely DFA signing, Shit Robot, is about to return with another round of funky minimal grooves. I’m well excited for this release. The Chasm/Wrong Galaxy EP was a great exercise in repetitive electro where tracks would evolve from introvert figures to huge jams.
When their latest track is called Simple Things, you would think that things would become even more minimal. That’s not the case. Shit Robot’s upcoming 12″ is a frustrated jam about wanting to get back to life’s simple pleasures and how surprisingly difficult that is. This is quite far from the minimal Shit Robot we used to know, but this track is amazing.
If you want the original, the Beats in Space podcast is the place to go. Until the 12″ drops, here’s a nice preview of the Todd Terje Version which substitutes some of the frustration with some of Terje’s signature disco.
