My relationship with Radio 1’s mini mixes has always been ambivalent. I’ve probably never had 5 music of music as fun as Aeroplanes one and I’ve never experienced as many different tracks as on the The Twelves mix (ok, I saw Girl Talk once, sooo…). The latest artist to jam an incredible amount of tracks into a 5 minute slot is the ever eclectic Major Lazer.
After seeing Diplo dj at Roskilde I thought I would be ready for the usual whoop of the mini mix, but I was no where near prepared for this. I’m not capable of completing the tracklist yet. After a few listens I’m able to namedrop the following and I’m sure you’ll be able to add a lot more: Pon de Floor, Nirvana’s Lithium, Black Eyed Peas, Queen of my Castle, and some 2-step stuff.
It may not be art. It may not even be music. But it’s 6 minutes of easy entertainment and an incredibly adventurous mix.
