This track is taken from KZA’s Dig and Edit album, which gives you a pretty good idea of what the theme is. I’m nowhere near savvy enough to name the sample here, but I’m a firm believer in KZA’s sampling and editing skills. I’m pretty sure they’re both showcased perfectly here.

Relentlessly twisting arpeggiators, simple drum patterns and an insisting, relaxed feel makes Routine’s name slightly ironic. KZA’s tracks are perfect for daydreaming escapades and weekday oases where the light and crisp synths seem oh so soothing. You may complain that this is too much of the same thing, a feeble attempt at “less is more”. It still works, though, and Routine really works through the slight variations and somewhat unexpected twists that occur throughout.

Be sure to stop by Juno to pick up the album and this isn’t happiness for more photo goodness.
