Hailing from German motor city Stuttgart, Motor City Drum Ensemble has become one of the most appreciated producers of 2009 and with good reason. Not only does he manage to blend techno, house, disco, and vinyl nostalgia in an irresistible mix, his productions preserve an authentic sound of vintag synthesizers while remaining friendly to modern dancefloors.

Danilo Plessow, the man hiding behind the industrial moniker, is perhaps most famous for his heavily sampling Raw Cuts series that has been incredibly hyped and worshipped, and they really are fantastic releases. Where his 2008 release of #3 and #4 would twist and turn, #5 and # 6 return to more static grooves with lighter keyboards and a house party feel.

What really made him stand out in my book, though, was his remixes. I can’t rave enough about his remixes of DJ Sprinkles’ Grand Central Part I, especially the Bassline Dub. An thunderous rolling bass-line leaves the original’s preaching vocals behind for a straight-up deephouse gem. Although I’ve only be able to get my fix through YouTube, I can’t let this one leave my headphones. Stunning track.

If you desperately need your Motor City Drum Ensemble and have already realized that it’s impossible to dig up a slice of his Raw Cuts series, check out his mix from Sunday Best from August.
