Remember when I stated that finding more solid mixes was one of my new year’s resolutions for 2010? Well, Savile was nice enough to give me a helping hand in keeping up that resolution and promptly sent over some fresh mixes exclusively for Going Other Places (nice, huh?).
If his name sounds familiar it’s most likely because you’ve drooled over his Penguini edits, enjoyed his pumping promo-mix, or experienced light paranoia from his collaboration with NT89. From what I can tell from a handful of hints on Myspace and Twitter, we’re in for more goodness this year, so how could we kick off this year in a better way than with an exclusive mix?
The SMARTBARDEMO_JAN04 mix is a bit of a deviation from what you would usually expect from Savile. Not that it’s sub-par, but rather that is combines many different flavors of house while saving the full-on techno for later. Things start off as classic acid with Kink’s Trevoga (must get this track somehow), a track that promises a fairly direct approach. The mix slowly evolves, however, using both pianos and soulful vocals in order to create a much more house-inspired vibe. For a 25-minute mix, a large number of tracks are dropped, but that doesn’t compromise the quality. As you would expect from Savile, this is tight, focused, and well-crafted.
