Starting off with a unorthodox rhythm, this Naum Gabo remix somehow fits the old sculptor’s complex art brilliantly. It doesn’t last long though, and when crisp keyboards overtake the sonic ground along with vocal samples and subtly tweaked bleeps, we’ve returned to a simpler pattern.
I’ve previously featured Naum Gabo’s Black Lab, a slow, twisting, and repetitive jam. While that track sounds radically different from his remix of Psychonauts‘ Take Control, his latest effort still carries some of his signature sounds. I’m most amazed by the feeling of space that follows his productions. Although the means are simple, the different layers and the use of reverb, echo, and delay gives this a deeper and more thoroughly produced feel.
I guess that’s why that drum breakdown doesn’t kill the groove but just adds a little suspense and some significant groove. As sequencers support the complete vocal line, and yet another fizzy keyboard enters the track, things turn a lot darker and the early experimental sound is abandoned for a more direct drive.
