I rarely post videos on here, but if I did, I would definitely had featured Beck & Charlotte Gainsbourg‘s video for Heaven Can Wait. Their acoustic creation made sense in an unsettling way when paired with the video’s blend of absurd footage and moody faces from the two.
Ever since watching that video I’ve felt that the original track begs for a quirky sidekick. Just that little something that makes Gainsbourg’s vocals even more haunting and piercing. When Nosaj Thing‘s remix surfaced, I knew I didn’t have to look any further. Hollow claps in echo chambers and 1-2-3 drum-patterns make for just that little something extra.
A handful of vocal snippets tweaked beyond recognition. An army of flapping percussion sounds. Nosaj Thing’s consistently uncompromising style is once again projected onto a fragile foundation that makes you wonder weather or not we’ll make it through. Gainsbourg’s sampled ohs end up leaving us somewhere in the middle ground, not knowing wether these new sounds have left us in a more pleasant setting.
