The Rundown: Turbo Recordings

December 28, 2009

If you’ve followed this blog throughout the year, you’ll know that I’ve switched my focus a lot since January. You’ve seen less distorted house and more subtle techno, house, and disco grooves. One of the biggest reasons for this switch was Turbo Recordings. This year, and especially the first six months, their releases were all [...]

Black & Blue

Did I forget to mention that Turbo is slaughtering all other labels this year with the possible exception of Sound Pellegrino? Well, they are. Spinning yet another cut of easily digestible techno, Tiga remixes Swedish electropop comet Miike Snow with great results. Like a mutant outtake from Zombielicious, Black & Blue is both haunting and [...]

A shadow in the datasphere

Crookers are best when they strip out the gags and hiphop playfulness to create to the point electro tracks. Beep Beep Beep’s vocals are largely thrown away and instead replaced by several layers of gritty synths resulting in the tightest Crookers production yet. While the techno hints are more prominent than ever, the tongue-in-cheek attitude [...]

New Penguini sounds from Savile

Let us be clear: Nobody can touch Turbo Recordings in 2009. Every single piece of wax with the Turbo stars on it has been a quality release. If you don’t believe me, just think Zombie Nation, Tiga, and Zoo Brazil and Adam Sky.
This post is about another Turbo favorite of mine, Hugg & Pepp’s Penguini. [...]

Oh God, I’m beginning to feel an obsession coming up. Everything released on Turbo this year has been incredible, ranging from Tiga over Zombie Nation and now Zoo Brazil and Adam Sky. Ok, I know this isn’t exactly a new track (apparently it took 17 months from the final touches to the release), but this [...]

Learn to break the beats

May 25, 2009

Imagine What You Need being less in-your-face, less grinding and much more melodic. Now stop laughing.
What You Need, of course taken from Tiga’s fantastic Ciao! album, is all about the edges, the distortion and the blurred out border between noise and musical achievement. Zombie Nations makes this one all about the groove.
I highly recommend [...]

Stop ripping off podcasts/mixes, please

April 9, 2009

This is just a tiny little request from me to all of you who are just as eager as me, to get your hands on all the new and exciting tracks floating around in various mix/podcast-constellations. Please don’t rip them. Don’t get me wrong, if you’ve ripped the latest Essential Mix from Tiga I’ll probably be the first to grab the download, but that’s it. Don’t rip the small bits of track and share them as though they were the real thing, because they’re not.

The Bloody Beetroots remix Mind Dimension

February 27, 2009

I’ve been waiting for this ever since The Bloody Beetroots revealed their excessive remix plans for 2009. This was first on the list, and therefore it has to be the most awesome one… right? Well, I’m eager to find out. I’ll encourage you to take a similar approach in the comments, until then here are [...]

Week 8 – Apologies and promises

February 22, 2009

(I just had to put Tiga there since I never really got to blog about that site. But I’m ridiculously excited to hear it!)

This may be the most pathetic type of post, but I’ll start off by expressing how sorry I am for not updating you more in the past week. I’ve been so busy [...]
